A Day of Joy: CACCST Treats Children to Rock in Rio Preview

Casa de Apoio à Crianças com Câncer Santa Teresa (CACCST) is a vital initiative dedicated to addressing the significant disparities in cancer treatment for underprivileged children in Brazil, providing them with access to life-saving care they might not otherwise afford. Beyond offering medical support, CACCST also strives to bring joy and unforgettable experiences to these resilient children, lifting their spirits during challenging times.

This past Wednesday, the organization treated 17 children to a special preview of Rock in Rio, the renowned music festival set to officially kick off on Friday. The outing gave the kids a chance to escape their daily battles and enjoy a day filled with fun and leisure.

Ana Luisa Carvalho (Year 12) and Alice Guetta (Year 11) played a key role in preparing for the event. In addition to escorting the children throughout the day, they successfully raised 580 reais to cover the cost of snacks. The children were treated to a nutritious meal, which included ham sandwiches, bananas, apples, and biscuits. The girls also took the initiative to prepare the sandwiches themselves to ensure the kids had a wholesome and enjoyable lunch during their special day.

After taking many photos, the children were treated to a lively concert at Rock in Rio’s “Palco Favela,” where vibrant Brazilian samba filled the air. Following the music, the excitement ramped up as they tested out some of the event’s most thrilling rides, and, thanks to fast passes, the children were able to bypass long lines. The highlights were the Ifood-sponsored rollercoaster, which they described as an exhilarating, “radical” experience and the free fall which left many with goosebumps.

As the day drew to a close, the children gathered on the event’s grassy field for a picnic, savoring “batata no cone”—crispy French fries served in a cone-shaped container. They left the event at 10 p.m. with smiles on their faces and cherished new memories.
