The Importance of the SAT

Hey Falcons,
As we all navigate the stressing road of high school and IB, there’s a lot that’s constantly on our minds, such as sports, clubs, social life, and of course, the persistent question of college. One big milestone on that journey to college is the SAT.

What’s the real Big Deal with the SAT?

First things first, why does the SAT even matter? The SAT is more than just a test, it’s an opportunity. It’s a chance to show colleges what you know and how you think. While grades and extracurriculars are super important, the SAT gives you a way to stand out on a national level. It’s a standardized test, which means it’s the same for everyone, everywhere. That level playing field can really work to your advantage if you put in the effort.

Colleges in the US, use your SAT scores as one part of their admissions process. What is different about the SAT is that is not about the difficulty, but the attitude towards practice. We all know Mr Gardner, an incredible maths teacher in our school and his classic phrase “practice makes perfect”, couldn’t be anymore far from the truth. The SAT is worth out of 1600 and to get accepted to the top schools, it is ideal that you score 1450+. Yeah, I know, just hearing can make you feel a bit stressed.
A solid score can open several doors to scholarships and special programs. If you practice and organize yourself, ps: I have already made an article about organization, it is completely manageable.
