Urca Politics Club

A new politics club has launched at TBS, by year 13 students Caroline Gorra and Ana Luisa Carvalho, providing students with an exciting platform to debate global issues and explore different perspectives. The club meets every two weeks, with each session structured around a key issue affecting the world today. Unlike traditional debates, where participants argue their personal beliefs, this club challenges students to take on assigned roles—whether as representatives of specific countries, political parties, or ideological positions—allowing for a more immersive and thought-provoking discussion.

The first debate, scheduled for next week, March 28th, is expected to be a lively and engaging event. The chosen topic, “Censorship in the Digital Age: Protecting Society or Silencing Voices?” will encourage participants to think critically, research different viewpoints, and engage in structured arguments. Beyond honing debate skills, the politics club provides a space for students to deepen their understanding of international affairs, policy-making, and the complexities of political discourse. It is open to students of all backgrounds, regardless of experience, and welcomes anyone interested in discussing global issues in an environment that values respectful and informed dialogue.
